I just finished reading Cochoits notes on his origen. I tend to still think that he had saxon origins. Obviously the name would have changed after the Normans came because they used a naming convention preceding a place name by "de." He may well have been the manor holder before the Normans took them over and kept on as a vassel. It is a reasonable spculation that Robert Pantulf was in fact Robert de Eyton. However this does not fit in with him having a son (Ivo) named Pantulf. It is also an intersting speculation that Robert could be married to a daughter of William Pantulf since the name William re-appears in the Eaton line. Notify Administrator about this message?
