civil war execution
I am looking for information about the execution of 5 or 6 men during the civil war by union troops. The men were held over night in a log cabin and executed the next day either by firing squad or by burning the log house down around them. They were farmers and I believe one might have been a preacher who were believed tobe southern sympathizers. The incident supposedly occured near the salt river.however I believe some of the men to have been from Clay county Missouri. My great great grandfather was captured with these men but escaped during the night. The others would not go with him because they had know the young commander of the union troops all his life and did not feel like he would kill them.My great great grandfather was very close to one of these men killed by the union troops.I am trying to find out the details of the incident and the names of the other men.
