Debbie:Although not conclusive as yet, the Eaton Families Association has spent a good deal of time researching this information, and from one of our members, Jimmie Eaton, it is stated in part:
This work was conducted by Jimmie Eaton and Richard Meredith, a Welsh genealogiest.
The earliest record of the name Eaton in Wales I could find was that of George Eaton (est. b. 1580). Richard Meredith, after confering with other Welsh genealogists, thinks the Eatons came from Cheshire County, England. This county borders on the northeast of Wales. George was married to Ellen Hatfield either in Llangor or Llandinam. He is listed in the tax assessment of that period as a yeoman of Llangurig meaning he owned his own dwelling and whatever land immediately surrounded it.
Note:The EFA has decided for any further research to concentrate on families who may have come to Wales during the religious persecutions (of Baptists) in England. It is thought that it was possibly the grandson of the aforementioned George, John b. 1645, son of John, b. 1610, who migrated to PA.If you could verify any of this information, it could be extremely important.
