Charles G. Eaton, Ohio
I received the following request from the Curator of Manuscripts of the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center regarding Dr. Charles G. Eaton who was a physician who lived in Clyde,
Ohio.During much of the Civil War, he led the 72nd Ohio, the regiment
formed in Sandusky County, Ohio. The regiment fought with Grant and
Sherman (as part of Grant's Army of the Tennessee) in the western theater
of the war - Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg, Nashville, Brice's Cross Roads,
Mobile Bay.As Dr. Eaton was a prominent resident, I find it interesting
that none of his Civil War letters (or perhaps diaries and documents) seem
to have survived.I wonder if any Eaton descendants may be of aware of any
Civil War correspondence associated with Dr. Eaton?
Sincerely,
Nan Card
Curator of Manuscripts
