In fact, William and Jonas are clearly not on the Hercules passenger list.There are actually no such things as passenger lists as we think of them.What there is are lists of people who applied to there parish for permission to leave for New England.So the lists of names are from all different times and all different parishes.All passenger lists from these early days are pieced together from other records.The Hercules sailed in 1635, the date of William Eaton's certificate is May 11, 1637.
Jonas Eaton being listed as a servant of William does not make it unlikely that he is a younger brother.He is just agreeing to pay for his passage and to provide for him in Massachusetts.
