Pleasant and Caroline Eaton - GA, AL, TN
Can someone help me find information on my g-g-grandparents, Pleasant and Caroline (Eaton) Eaton? They were married in Lumpkin Co. GA around 1850. In 1870, they were listed on the Winston Co. AL census with 4 children: Nathan,17; James,12; Miney,8; and Mary,6. In 1880, they were in Wayne Co. TN with only 2 children: James Polk, and Minnie C. Minnie is my great-grandmother.
Their tombstone says that Pleasant died in 1896, but he is listed on the pension record of 1890 as drawing a pension from the army. The only thing that the pension record tells about him is that he was a U.S. Soldier from the 9th civil district of Wayne Co.
There is a record of a land grant to Pleasant Eaton from Winston County AL, but that is also in 1900. Could there have been two Pleasant Eaton's in this area at this time? Or is the information on the tombstone wrong?
The 1900 Wayne Co. TN census does not list Pleasant, but it lists Caroline as head of the household with her daughter Minnie Mauldon and grandson, George. This census also states that Caroline gave birth to 9 children with only 2 living at this time.
All of the censuses state that Caroline was born in Georgia. However, one census gives Pleasant's birthplace as Alabama and the other one says that he was born in Georgia. The four children that are listed on the census were all born in Alabama, so I am assuming that they moved to Alabama from Georgia not long after they were married.
I would love to find who their parents and siblings were. I have been looking for these people off and on for twenty years. They are my tallest brick wall
.
If anyone can give me any information at all on this family, or even give me a hint as to where else that I can look or tell me someone that might know these people, I would be so very grateful.
Thank you,
Connie
