Rick:
Warin the Bold was the 1st Norman Sheriff of Shropshire - he is not the same person as Warin vassal of Pantulf at Eyton (who I call Warin de Eyton).Warin the Bold, Norman Sheriff was dead at the time of the Doomsday survey in 1086; Warin de Eyton was still living. Were you thinking that Warin the Bold was the name of Warin de Eyton?
Warin the Bold and William Pantulf probably both came to England at the exact same time. Both surely came with their lord, Earl Roger de Montgomery, immediately following the Norman conquest of England in 1066.They may have fought at the battle of Hastings, though there is no evedence of this.
William Pantulf certainly died an old man.His children would have been born in the 1060-1080 range (just guessing).100 years later Robert de Eyton is granting Buttery manor to Shrewsbury Abbey. He would have to be a grandson or even a great grandson.Of William Pantulf's four sons, only Robert came to England and succeeded as the 2nd baron of Wem.Robert's son Ivo Pantulf became 3rd baron of Wem; however, Ivo had a brother whose name is not known. At this time a William Pantulf is witnessing charters in Staffordshire and Janet Meisel surmises he is the brother of Ivo Pantulf, 3rd Baron.
Now for my unsupported guess - Robert de Eyton could be the son of this William Pantulf. We would have William Pantulf, 1st baron father of Robert 2nd baron father of William P. father of Robert de Eyton.robert de Eyton would then be a great grandson of the first William Pantulf.
