Joe:
The date we are dealing with is in a stained glass window at Eyton-on-the-Weald Moors and is associated with the Eyton arms as quartered with Pantulf. You know this.
The date is 1154 a.d.
Morris is not the source of that particular date.
Now, to your theory, which sounds good to me. My guess is that this is the date Eyton and Pantulf married and the question is which Pantulf and which Eyton.
Do you agree?
By the way, I am reading Warren's history of Henry I. It seems that c. 1124, Ranulf, Early of Chester, was one of the foremost three or four advisors to Henry I, along with Robert, Henry's bastard son, both in support of the Empress Maud as Henry's her vc. Clito, Stephen et al.
I have thought that there may be a family tie to Ranulph (Robert too). Any thoughts about that?
Rick
