You may be right about Robert's timing. It all depends on who his father is and, yes, documentation like charters.
Where, btw, did you find the information about his holdings? I sure would like to check it.
As I said, I am out of town, but my wife told me on the phone that she has come upon information that suggests Robert is the son of Christiana Fitzalan, whose SECOND marriage was to a Pantulf. That would explain a lot in terms of why some of Robert's holdings had been in Pantulf's hands previously. Pantulf ran into political trouble as you may know and laid low in Sicily until there was a change in Kings (Stephen to Henry, as best as I can recall without books and records at hand). It is possible, then, that Rob't could have been sired by either Wm. Fitzalan or Pantulf, I suppose. I'll try to dig something up about this when in the U.K.
