A searching Clue for Eatons
Place names have to be a big help in searching, especially for those who are starting off blind, so to speak, but know that "Uncle Harry" came from Pennsylvania. Just a few Eaton places that I found listed, other than in England, are:
Eaton, Crawford County, Illinois. presley S. Eaton was postmaster in 1863.
Eaton, Maine. originally established 1873 as Crooked Brook.
Eaton, Madison County, NY and Eaton, Preble County, were supposedly named for General William Eaton of Massachusetts.
Eaton, Gibson County, Tennessee. Estd. 1831.
There are more. A close look at a good atlas should reveal them.
