I just thought I'd update you on my findings to date. I am still loking for evidence or clues about ESTHER ETHERLY's parentage (also appearing as Ethey and maybe Hester). She married John Reid about 1784 posssibly somewhere in the Delaware River settlements area.
When they fled to Upper Canada as Loyalists with John's father William and the entire family, John and Esther had, according to much later petition documents, 2 small sons, John b.1785 and Isaac b. c, 1787.
I have a very small lead that William MAY have been one of the original settlers in the Harpersfield settlement of Ulster Co (Delaware Co) NY, settling there c. 1772, moving there from "New England". Long Island or Long Island Sound may also be a place of interest.
I just wondered if any of these tidbits sparked a thought as to Esther Etherley's origins! I have been trading thoughts with Sam Eatherley all year, what a character!
