Hello Bernard,

Good to hear from you. As far as I know there are two branches of the family, one in Canada and one in the US. I can only assume that they originated from the samne place though. Our branch came from "the north of" France with a detour in UK or (vice versa), hence the d', which I think was used for one generation in the late 1700s in the US, but then dropped.

My passed-down history of the family is that Charles Atkinson d'Easum was born in France and landed near the Maryland/Virginia border in 1784 then moved to Jeffersontown KY. There is still a family cemetery there that I just visited this summer. But there are other versions that say he was born in America.... We will probably never know for sure.

Intesrtengly he started off in Stepney Parish, Maryland. Stepney Parish UK, is very close to London..maybe there is a link there too.
