I believe my gggrandfather, William Eastridge, came from Lancaster County, SC. He was born in South Carolina about 1833. He shows up in the Titus County, Texas census in 1870. He has apparently been through Alabama, because his wife Sarah J. was born in AL, and so were the children: Mary, Sarah J., John J., James Thomas (my ggrandfather), and William. I cannot find the family after 1870. In 1880, there is a James Eastridge, who may be my ggrandfather in Harrison County, Texas. At the same time John Eastridge is living with cousins in Franklin County, Texas. This may be because, according to a family story, the mother died, and James, who did not like his step-mother, left home at a young age. I believe that William remarried and had at least two more children, Docia and Eli.

The 1870 Titus County, Texas census also shows a George M. Easterly, whom I believe to be an Eastridge, who is 35 years old, and was born in South Carolina. He is living with Ellen Eastridge, who is 70 years old, Liddie Eastridge, 30, and Martha J. Eastridge, 28. All were born in SC. By 1880, all are gone from Titus County. Unfortunately, the Titus County courthouse burned in 1895, and all records were lost.

Perhaps by now, you have acquired enough information to put this together with the Lancaster Eastridges. Joanne Doherty
