From "Eastmans of Tamworth," by Harland Horace Eastman (1964), p. 9:Jacob Eastman (m. Sarah Hackett), apparently a widower, m. the Widow Abigail Stevenson in 1820 in Tamworth NH.About the year 1835, Jacob and Abigail went to Bangor ME to live with children.A Samuel Eastman of Bangor identified him in a document requesting the transfer of his pension from Tamworth to Bangor at that time. The doument does not say whether Samuel was Jacob's son.Jacob died in Hampden, Maine, near Bangor, on 12 Jan 1849.After his death, Abigail returned to Tamworth where her name was listed in the 1850 census.According to pension records, she was still living there in 1853 at the age of 85."This account was only able to identify one of Jacob and Sarah's children - William M. Eastman, b. 6 Mar 1787 at Tamworth, who m. Dorothy Prescott.
If you have not seen "Eastmans of Tamworth," it is available to members on loan from the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Call No. CS/71/E137.
I have been trying to find a William Eastman, born ca 1803 in Tamworth, m. 1828 Louise or "Lovey" Burleigh in Tamworth - may have been son of Jacob and Sarah (the time seems right), but so far no proof.George Albion Eastman, b. 1829 in Tamworth may have been brother or 1st cousin to my ancestor Henry Porter Eastman, b. 1833 in Alfred, Maine.George and Henry found in 1850 census for Somersworth, NH with Nancy "Burley," (nee Blake),possibly their grandmother (the Burleighs lived in Ossipee NH, near Tamworth).Nancy Blake m. James Burleigh in Springvale ME 1805; their dtr. "Lovey" m. William Eastman; Lovey died 1842 in Somersworth. No records found for children of Lovey and William - Somersworth records do not exist.
Have been trying to collect all info on Eastmans of Tamworth in attempt to connect them.Glad to share what I have so far.I've found some vital records in Tamworth town records and Canney's "Marriages of Strafford County NH." (1995) - Heritage Books.
