Hi Chris
I don't have a lot of information on the Eastman family. I do have the census' from 1851 to 1901 (for your ancestor Richard as well as my descendants. Richard (b 1795 approx.) was a Chelsea Pensioner and appears to have died between 1851 and 1861. (There is a death for a Richard Eastman in Canterbury during this period, so probably him)I obtained full military service records for a Richard Eastman who enlisted in Ireland and had various stints in the British Army. Unfortunately although the records state he was born in Bideford they don't formally give a year. However working it out from his service records it appears around 1793+ (not quite the right year for us, so I am not sure.
In the 1861 census it appears that Harriet and Ann Mary left the family to go work as laundresses and your Richard looked after the three younger children for a while, along with his wife and son.
I do have my direct line all the way through from Richard and Harriet as well as a few other bits and pieces. You can email me direct at [email protected] if you have anything you think I might be able to help with.
Cheers Karen
