Carlton Eastman was shown in the 1870 census for Holland, Vermont on the same page as Charles Eastman and family. He was listed as "retired farmer" age 79, born in New Hampshire, with wife Marcia, age 59, born in Vermont.
There's an ink smudge on his name but it's quite legible.
The Eastman website claimed he had died in 1859 but that was CLEARLY a mistake. You shouldn't give much weight to the claim of "about 1825" for the date of his marriage to Serena Walker, since the Vermont censuses show Carlton Eastman may have had six sons that were born before 1825!
I would give far greater weight to the death certificate stating the mother of your Charles had been Cyrene.
1820 census, Hartland, Vermont, Carlton Eastman:
1 maleage26-44 years (born 1776-1794)
1 female age26-44 years (born 1776-1794)
2 malesage<10 years (born 1811-1820)
1830 census, Hartland, Vermont, Carlton Eastman:
1 maleage 30 <40 years (born 1791-1800)
1 female age 30 <40 years (born 1791-1800)
2 malesage 15 <20 years (born 1811-1815)
3 malesage 10 <15 years (born 1816-1820)
1 maleage5 <10 years (born 1821-1825)
2 malesage<5years (born 1826-1830)
1840 census, Hartland, Vermont, Carlton Eastman:
1 maleage 50 <60 years (born 1781-1790)
1 female age 50 <60 years (born 1781-1790)
2 malesage 20 <30 years (born 1811-1820)
2 malesage 15 <20 years (born 1821-1825)
1 maleage5 <10 years (born 1831-1835)
1 female age 15 <20 years (born 1821-1825)
You should also note the following:
An Elnathan Walker was listed in the 1820 Hartland census on the page before Carlton Eastman and may have been the father of Serena Walker.
An Orrin Liscomb was living next door to Carlton Eastman in the 1830 Hartland census and may have been the father of Marcia Liscomb.
Miscellaneous New Hampshire Marriages gives a marriage of Carlton Eastman to Lydia Heath, 16 Aug 1810, but that record doesn't provide any specific New Hampshire location, just the date. The Hartland census data shown above (in particular the 1830 census which narrows the birthdates of the oldest boys to 1811-1815) leads me to believe that Lydia Heath had probably been their mother. By 1820, Carlton Eastman was in Hartland and had probably already married to his second wife, Serena. My guess is that they had married in Hartland, about 1818-1819.
The fact that your Carlton Eastman was still living in 1870 greatly improves the odds that his death certificate is on file with the state. If so, I suspect it would confirm that his father had been William Eastman and his mother (most likely) had been Jane Carlton. Despite all the apparent LATER errors in your line, the Eastman website material which connects your Carlton Eastman to William, thus back to Roger, is (mostly) correct. I have a copy of the Vital Records of Haverhill to the year 1850 and some of the early dates shown on the Eastman website (for your line) do NOT agree with actual town records.
Gerald Lee Weeden of Bridgewater, Vermont was a descendant of Samuel & Lucy (Warren) Weeden of Hartland and my maternal uncle. He married Elsie Ocean, sister of Hattie Ocean below.
Our Eastman line:
Roger1, Thomas2, Jonathan3, Sarah4 m. Robert Emerson, Caleb Emerson5, Sarah Emerson6 m. Francis Curtis, Joel Curtis7, Gustavus Curtis8, Carrie Curtis9 m. Ezra Ocean, Hattie Ocean10 m. Bernard Macmann Jr.
