This is in reply to Sharon's query on 9/2/98:
I have information about Van Swearingen Eastin's parents, BUT my source information is a little shakey -- when I first started on this exciting adventure (genealogy) nobody told me that I would need to document everything. However, I've never taken the word of anything not fairly "official", and have never thrown anything away, so consequently I have a couple filing cabinets FULL of all the papers I've collected over the past 10 years that I've gotten my information from. Actually FINDING where I got a certain piece of information could take years of digging through papers! (I have it "sort of" filed in an order, but....) But, if you will bear with me, I can try to find actual source documentation. (This is where Sharrell Eastin (deceased) fit into the picture. She would go to the library in Denver, make copies of every article in every book where she found the Eastin/Easton name and send the copies on to me and I would sort through the new information and let her know my findings. In fact, I still have a huge stack of information she sent me in June that I have not had time to sort through!)
I now have a plethora of Eastin information but still cannot connect my line past John J. Eastin, b: 13 Apr 1804 Madison Co., KY. If anyone has any clues........
Anyway, now that you know all of this, I will tell you that we found the parents of Van/Vanison Swaringen Eastin, b. 26 Sep 1806/07 to be:
Major Charles Smith Eastin, b: 4 Dec 1782/3 Lexington, Fayette Co., KY, d: 16 Sep 1865 Charleston, Coles Co., ILL or Clarke Co., KY and Sarah/Sallie Swearingen, b: 31 May 1786/9 Fayette Co., KY (or maybe PENN), d: 25 Mar 1866 (or bef. 1848). They are both buried in Coles Co., ILL. They were married 18/19 Dec 1803/5 in Shelbyville, Shelby Co., KY.
Let me know if you have more questions, or if you have conflicts with this information.
