Hi Valerie
Re spelling – the later generations of my family definitely spelt it ‘Esterbrook’ but it did vary according to accents and whether or not the person giving the information was literate.
Briefly: Thomas Esterbrook born 1826ish Co.Tyrone. Married (widower on marriage certificate) Lavinia Turner 1861 in Enfield. I know that the surname was known in that area but no connection has been established. They moved to Islington and had numerous children. Both Thomas and Lavinia died in 1880. Have traced three children (my grandmother and two of her brothers) and believe at least two more stayed in Islington.
I believe Thomas’ first marriage was to Jane Brown in 1851 but the surname was spelt EASTERBROOKE. In both cases the father was John but occupations of both were different in 1851 from those in 1861.
It would be nice if we were connected - let me know if the above is of any interest.
All the best
Barbara
