OWENS/EASTEP connection Lauderdale Co., AL 1880
Rosa A. OWENS, b. 16 August 1877, d. 7 December 1950, buried in Miller Cemetery, Lauderdale Co., AL, was living with Solomon and Melinda EASTEP and their children James F. EASTEP and Martha A. EASTEP in the 1880 Lauderdale AL census. From family history and death certificates we have Rosa A. Owens' father as Sylvester OWENS, and Rosa's brother Mathew OWENS b. 10 October 1873 d. 23 July 1948, buried also at Miller Cenetery. Mathew OWENS married Mary Berta LENTZ b. 1 December 1879 d. 1 November 1943. Family history also mentions an older brother of Mathew and Rosa that went to Arknasas.
"Rosey" OWENS is listed as a cousin of Solomon and Malinda EASTEP in the 1880 census.I have lost the trail of Sylvester OWENS at the 1870 census. It appears that he and Rachel OWENS may have died between 1870 and 1880, as Rosa OWENS, age 2, is living with the EASTEPS, Mathew OWENS, age 6, is living with Bethel and Kittie CHANDLER in the 1880 Lauderdale, AL census.I also find a Robert OWENS, age 10, living with Daniel and Mary E. MORRISON, but not related, possibly the older brother that went to Arkansas.
I have Sylvester OWENS owing taxes in Limestone Co., AL in 1856, listed in 1860 Lauderdale Co., AL census, age 46 M Farmer born NC, along with Margaret OWENS, age 28
F born AL, and Sina E. OWENS, age 1 F.In close proximity to Sylvester OWENS is the family of John OWENS, age 78 Farmer, NC and Eliza OWENS, age 44 F born TN, and Francis OWENS, age 15, F. born AL.Also in close proximity is the family of Robert OWENS, age 48 M Farmer born NC, Rebecca OWENS, age 38 F born AL, and their children Mary Ann OWENS 11, Sameul W. Owens 10, and James A. OWENS age 5.
I have a reference of Marriage of Sylvester OWENS and Margaret CHAMBERS 17 January 1846, Lauderdale Co., AL.
1866 State AL census Lauderdale Co. I find Sylvester OWEN with a family of 6, 1 male < 10, 1 male 30-40 (Sylvester would be 52), 3 females < 10, and 1 female 20-30 (Margaret would be 34).
1870 Lauderdale Co., AL census lists Sylvester OWENS age 50, Rachel OWENS, age 25 F born AL, Ann, age 12 F born AL, and Nancy OWENS, age 5 F born AL.Between 1866 and 1870 we lose 2 children.I have no burial records for these children.
Because of the ages, proximity and NC connection, I suspect that John OWENS is the father of Sylvester OWENS and Robert OWENS. Because of her age and being born in TN, Eliza OWENS appears to be either a sister of Robert OWENS and Sylvester OWENS, or a later marriage of John OWENS.I suspect that Rachel _____? from the 1870 census may be Sylvester's second wife and could be a cousin of either Solomon EASTEP or Malinda EASTEP.I note from prior posts [EASTEP] that Malinda may be Malinda JONES.I am looking for any help making the EASTEP or JONES connection with "Rosey" OWENS.
