Ron,

I have that record. Since I had not found another record for a John Eason, I had considered it might belong to my Carroll Co John. After your post, I became more curious as to why I couldn't find a record for a second John (at least not in the Ancestry.com data base). I had listed in my notes that Augustus Eason(who was with the family of Thomas and Nancy in 1850 in Coweta Co) was in Cobb's Legion Co B "Bowden Volunteers". My John Eason was living in Bowden in 1860.I found a roster for that company and it lists "John Eason".There was no information other than the name. I have a friend who is a serious student of the Civil War. I'll ask for his help. Curiously I couldn't find an Augustus in that list. He was listed in another regiment. Can't remember which now. I will go back and investigate that line.

Right now I'm thinking that the John from the 35th regiment is your Heard Co John and the one in Cobb's Legion is my Carroll Co one. Of course that doesn't give us proof as to which John is the son of Thomas and Nancy. There is however a third brother, Jefferson who was in the 41st regiment Co H which was a Carroll Co company also. Would that be more evidence that the Carroll Co John is more likely to be the son of Thomas and Nancy than the Heard Co one? What are your thoughts?

There is definitely two John Easons in close vicinity. I was curious as to why I can't seem to find a second John in 1850. I started searching for census records of Thomas' brothers to see if any of them had a son John close to the correct age. There is a John in Alabama, but he is only 10 years old. There is a Thomas in Alabama, age 17(perhaps Harrison's son. My memory is failing me) You don't suppose one of our John's was referred to by a different name at that time. I've found before that some of my ancestors started using a different name as an adult.

Keep me posted if you learn anything. I'll let you know if my Civil War expert is able to help me find that record.
