Ron,

This gets confusing. Let me start with what I know for a fact and lay out my facts in a way that I hope makes sense.

I know for sure that Emma Eason was my Great Grandmother. The 1860 Carroll Co census shows the following family:

John Eason age 25(John Eason Heard Co was listed as age 27)
Sarah
Nancy(named after grandmother?)
John
Emma

The 1850 census for Coweta Co shows a John age 14 living with parents Thomas and Nancy. The 1860 Carroll co John's age matches this one better than the Heard Co John. There is a child named Augustus in this household also.

On the 1870 census for Calhoun Al. is the following family:

Sarah Eason
John age 15
Nancy age 14
Emma age 12
James age 10
Augusta age 2

(interesting note: Sarah showed up twice in that year's census. At one address living with her father John Johnson and the above children. A month later she was recorded at a different address in Calhoun with the same children, but father no longer listed. I assumed she had moved and was recorded at both addresses)

It has always bothered me that if her husband was the John Eason who died in 1862, where does the 2 year old Augusta come from. I suppose it could have been a nephew. It is also interesting that the 1850 Coweta Co. John had a brother named Augustus.

The only thing that makes me think the Carroll Co John married to Sarah is the son of Thomas and Nancy is the age given on the two census records. The Heard Co John would have been 16 or 17 in 1850 if his age was recorded correctly in 1870. That is assuming that the 1850 record is accurate and we all know how that goes.

I do continue to be concerned about the appearance of an apparent son of Sarah who is only 2 years old in 1870.

I hope this makes sense.

Nancy
