How does one come by this document?
I would be very reluctant to believe any single, all-encompassing, theory for the origin of the name. There seems to be a wide range of spellings for what sounds to be the same name-- Easom, Easum, Isom, Isham, etc. .The elements of the name are so simple-- would it be unreasonable to suggest that they may derive indepently from different languages? To further complicate matters, names might have been "corrected", their spellings altered for who knows whatever reason. For example, I have not gotten very far in trying to trace my Easum ancestry: there is no firm evidence to support the claim that the name is a variant of Isham.I suspect sometimes that some family historian of ours chose a hopeful probability rather than fact in order to feel better about him- or herself.
