Ruffin Earp is the son of Zachariah Earp and Mary Honeycutt. Zachariah is the son of John Earp and Frances Eason. John Earp is the son of William Earp and ??Rice. William is the son of Edward Earp (Rev War soldier) and Celia ??

Martha Earp Nowell only had one brother, Irvin. Irvin Earp moved to what became Benton Co, TN, with Cullen Nowell and several other Wake/Johnston Co families. Martha's husband, William Nowell, was an older brother of Willis. Cullen Nowell was also a younger brother of William. There are several marriages among the Earp and Nowell families in both NC and TN.
