Earp Family Genealogy Forum

Dear Kathy,
I am sorry to be so long in responding. We were out of town for the month of June and I am just now getting on my e-mail. Also your e-mail came on my husband's computer. I have since gotten my own (I was hogging his too much with genealogy). Our addresses are similar. The only difference is the first two letters. Mine is "ea" instead of "jl".
Anyway, I was glad to get your e-mail and would very much like to learn more about your branch of the Earp line. As far as the "Silas" I think that there are some nephews and other relatives who used Silas as a middle name with Josiah as the first name. With several Josiah's running around there is bound to be confusion.
Where did John Wesley and Linna live. Did they move to Texas after the Civil War. That is when Josiah and Mary Elizabeth Pirtle Earp moved to Texas, finally settling in Rising Star, where they reared their many children. They were very good Baptists, deeding property for the building of the local church and cemetery. They are both buried there. My grandmother, Martha Alice, moved to Roswell, N.M. after her marriage and birth of her first child. I was lucky enough to have spent quite a bit of time with her but unfortunately, I was not interested in family history then and never asked her questions. Needless to say, I regret this so much. She lived to be over 90 and died in Roswell in June, 1970. Do you have much on the Stogsdills? I have been to Mary Stogsdill Earp's grave close to Mena Ark. It is such a peaceful setting right by the side of the road. Do you know where Allen Earp is buried?
Again, I am glad to hear from you and hope to hear more about John Wesley and Linna. Take care and keep in touch. Elizabeth
