Looking for information on the family of John L. Earnest and Mattie West of Schleicher and Tom Green Co., Texas. John and Mattie (West) Earnest has two children; Mary Earnest, b. abt. 1908 and John Earnest, Jr., b. abt. 1909. John Earnest is recorded on the 1900 Census for Schleicher Co., Texas working for Rector Thomson. John Earnest is listed as age 40, widow, and born in Texas. On the 1910 Census, John Earnest and his wife Mattie (West) are found living in Schleicher Co., Texas with their two children, Mary Earnest, age 2 and John Jr., age 11/12. John is not found on the 1930 Census, however Mattie C. Earnest is found living in San Angelo, Tom Green Co., Texas with her son, John D. Earnest and her mother Valera West. John Earnest must have died between 1920 and 1930 because Mattie is listed as a widow on the 1930 census

Mattie C. (West) Earnest was the daughter of John M. and Valera West. John M. West was born January 1848 in Marrs Hill, Washington Co., Arkansas. Valera was born in Arkansas.

John Earnest and his first wife whose identity is unknown probably had one child, Mamie Ray Earnest, born about November 1894 in Texas. She is found living with Horace Thomson and his wife, Rachel Elizabeth (Pipkin) Thomson. Mamie Ray Earnest might be a niece of Rachel Elizabeth (Pipkin) Thomson. Thanks, Greg. gaharbour@yahoo.com
