I am a Geoghegan researcher, and have the following information which may help some of you; 1. John Geoghegan was born March 23, 1755 in Baltimore, MD, his parents unknown. 2. John served in the Revolutionary War, first under Capt. Samuel Smith in the 4th Maryland Regiment, and later as an Ensign in the 6th Maryland Line. He enlisted on February 20, 1777 and resigned January 20, 1778. John became ill during his service, and was declared an invalid. He referred to this in his 60's, when he petitioned the U.S. Congress for benefits. 3. John married Diana Harris in Baltimore, MD on May 3, 1779, her parents unknown. 4. Children of John and Diana (Harris) Geoghegan: 1. John Geoghegan, Jr. (born between 1775 and 1785 by census), married Nancy ? 2. Michael Geoghegan (born between 1775 and 1794 by census), Married (first) Mary Trigg, daughter of Thomas Trigg of Nicholas County KY, sealed and dated September 29, 1834. Married (second) Zippora ? . (Zippora mentioned in his father's will). 3. Elizabeth Geoghegan, born February 10, 1785 in MD, died September 16, 1818 in Harrison County, IN. Married Aquilla Standiford, II (1780-1854) on December 27, 1803 in KY. 4. Mary Geoghegan (aka Molly)married ? Culp (whose grandson W. N. Culp wrote about his grandfather John Goegan fighting in the Revolutionary War). 5. Sarah Geoghegan married Daniel Earlywine on December 31, 1815 in KY. 6. Martha Geoghegan (aka Patsy) married ? Kimbrough. 7. Rebecca Geoghegan (aka Becky) married ? Earlywine in KY. 8. Suckey Geoghegan married Mosely Brooks. 4. John Geoghegan witnessed the Will of Aquilla Standiford, Sr.(father of Aquilla II who married his daughter) in KY on January 10, 1799, which is the earliest proven date in KY, and suggests an earlier date of arrival. 5. John Geoghegan applied for a pension in Nicholas County, KY on December 2, 1818 (age 63). He received $240 per annum. 6. John applied for bounty land for Revolutionary War service on January 29, 1821. He was unsuccessful. 7. By the time of his own Will 0n February 1, 1824, John Geoghegan was married to a second wife known only as Ann ? (Some DAR descendants list her as Mary Ann, with no sources cited). It is unknown what happened to Diana Harris. 8. John Geoghegan died on February 20, 1826 (age 70) in Nicholas County, KY. His 1824 Will names his son Michael, his daughters Molly Culp, Sarah Earlywine, Patsy Kimbrough, Becky Earlywine, and Suckey Geoghegan, and his wife Ann. His son John, Jr. is not mentioned in the Will, nor is Elizabeth, who moved to IN before this date. John died in near-poverty, and left each of his children one dollar. I'm not sure which Daniel Earlywine Sarah married; but after reading some of your postings it appears the Rebecca b. 1799 who married William Earlywine (1801- ), moved with him to Rush County, IN, and named her own children Michael, Marhta and Elizabeth could be Rebecca Geoghegan. Enjoy. Bart Notify Administrator about this message?
