English, Irish and German Earlys: Of the Earl(e)ys of the English origin, records were to be found in the County of Norfolk, England, in 1273, of Nicholas le Urrly; in the county of Somerset, England, in 1273, of Clemens de Erleghe,Philip de Erlee, and Warin de Erlegh: and in London, England in the latter half of the sixteenth century, of Thomas Early and his wife, Agnes Odium. The first of the name in this country was Robert Earl(e)y, who came from England to Massachussets in the good ship Hercules in 1634, but nothing further is known concerning him and his family, if any. Possibly he was the progeniter of that George Early who married at Salem, Mass., in 1670 to Abigail Foote, but this is not certain. The First of the name in the Southern states was John Early, or Earley, who settled in Virginia as early as 1661. He is said to have immigrated from Donegal, Ireland. His records are also incomplete, although some authorities believe that he was the father of Thomas Early who was living in Middlesex County, Va., before 1705. Johannes Oehrley (Early) was born 9 Jan 1724 in Jensingen, Kingdom of Wurtemburg, Germany. He emigrated to America in 1750 and settled in Reading, Pa. Source: FH Library film # 1005003 From what I have read, the name Early originated in Ireland and later was found in Scotland, Germany and England.
