Connection between Jean d'Erly & Early?

I am interested in knowing more about the old world origins of the Early family. I teach Medieval History and I have often wondered if there was a connection between the "Early" surname and Jean d'Erly (died circa 1220), reputedly the best friend and liege man of Sir William Marshall, one of the greatest and most chivalrous Knights who ever lived. He is mentioned several times in the biography of William Marshall (aka Guillaume le Marshall, the Medieval French rendering of his name) Unfortunately, the biography, itself was written in Medieval French and has never been translated. However, an overview or critique of the book is printed in English and does list Sir Jean d'Erly or John of Erly as William Marshall's best friend. If anyone has any insights or inforamtion on this, I would be very interested to hear from you.
I _would_ also be interested in the "where's and whens" of an Early Family Reunion. If possible, please keep me posted or I will endeavor to check back at this site periodically for more information.
One genealogical note of minor interest. While I was in Ireland, three years ago, I came across a book of nineteenth century tales/legends about a mysterious Irishwoman and mystic named, "Biddy Early". I bought the book but it did not seem to have any relavant information about her family origins which is what I was most interested in looking for. Oh well. - Cym
(That's the Welsh spelling of "Kim", in case anyone was interested)
