In searching the maternal side of my wife's (Ruth Ann Brown 1935- ) genealogy I encountered what I believe to be a connection with the woman who bore Gen. Jubal A. Early four children, Julia McNealy. It was told to us by her mother,Virginia Ruth Wray (1913-1997) That her grandmother, Lillie Pugh, was connected to Gen. Jubal A. Early somehow but she didn't know how. According to her sons Death Certificate she was born in Rocky Mount, Virginia. Could she be the fifth child of Julia McNealy fathered by Charles M. Pugh in 1867? I have written down what she told me of her father's family but it is the barest of information. She said Lillie Pugh was married three times, first - R. H. Peterson; second - Richard Harrison; and third J. L. Wray. She said Lillie Pugh's father was a Dr. Pugh married to a Smithers.
Referring to Note #26 for Chapter Three on page 485 of Charles C. Osborne's biography of the General mentions Lillie Pugh being born in 1867.
Can you help me verify these speculations? Do you have some additional knowledge of Jean Early Dugan??
