Earles Family 1890's in Spartanburg, SC

I am researching William "Doc" Earles and his wife Nannie Gertrude Earles, of Spartanburg, SC, in the Township of the Cherokee. I cannot find Doc's parents' names, although I have been told by my grandmother (his daughther) that Doc was half white, half black. His wife, Nannie, was Cherokee and black. Nannie's maiden name was Smith, and Nannie's mother's name was Annie Smith. Descendants still live there, but I cannot go any farther than my gr-grandparents. Based upon my grandmother's age (81), and the fact that she and her twin were the last of 12 children, I would estimate that Doc and Nannie were born in the late 1880's or early 1890's.

Any information on finding Doc's parents, or Nannie's would be helpful.
