Harley Earl was a prominent designer for GM in the 1950's. Among his designs are, I believe, the original Corvette, and the 50's Cadillac with the huge tail fins. (And, incidentally, I believe Paul Simon's song, "It Was a Sunny Day" makes reference to him: "She called him Speedo, but his Christian name was Mr. Earl.")

As far as I can tell, he's not related to my line, but you never know...
