The state of Illinois does NOT require counties to send in their vital records to the IRAD offices. However, IF the county has sent it in, then the search and the document is free (there is a 25 cents a page fee for copying charges...a minimum of $1.00 must be ordered).
Also, even counties who do send their documents to IRAD do not always send all their documents. One county sends in marriage documents but not birth or death. It's worth a try to contact them though..that's how I found my grandparents marriage cert....John Monroe Earl...and on it (because by 1897 Illinois DID require health dept. certificates) (your ancestor's certificate will most likely be a simple entry in a ledger...no health dept. info with it...unless the bride was a minor, then it might possibly state her parent's names)it stated his parents names and his mother's maiden name.It also stated my grandma's parents names and her mother's maiden name. That is how I found out that John Monroe Earl was the son of Jesse Peter Earles Jr., and Susan Elizabeth Perdue Earles.Notice how the last name was changed by John.Even his own children spelled it Earl and Earle, and never spelled it the same way twice. That was also how I discovered that my great grandma was Nancy Mahalia Troutt Singleton, and her husband was Calvin Singleton. Thanks to that one document, I now have my Earles traced back to Thomas in the 1700's, and my Troutts back to Germany in the 1500's (the work was already done for me and sent to me by others researching these lines...bless them!).Good luck and happy hunting!
