Thought some might be interested in an email I received from Scotland today. It's from the Scotish Clans Org. Here goes: Dear Mr Jones Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding the above subject. I have looked in the book "Surnames of Scotland" by George F Black and unfortunately neither the name Eagleton any derivatives is mentioned. I contacted a colleague who is a genealogist and they informed me that the name is of English origin, e.g. Leicestershire, Cornwall, Herefordshire. There is a possible connection to Saxon or Scandinavian name. It is possible that your wife's ancestor was either a miner, farmer or shepherd who came up to Scotland from the North of England. As the name appears to be of English origin, therefore we could find no connection to a tartan. There is however, a Scottish Tartan Museum which you might like to contact. I have delayed replying to you as I have been trying to telephone the museum in order to get their address, but unfortunately, I have had no luck so far. The telephone number however is as follows - 01542 888419. I hope the information provided above will be of some use to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us again should you require any further assistance. Yours Marion Lynch Archives Assistant I am writing to you again to inform you that I have been able to locate the address of the Scottish Tartan Museum. Scottish Tartan Museum, Institute House, 178 Mid Street, Keith. Contact: Linda Gorn (Museum Liaison Officer). Tel: 01542 886320 (Home) or 01542 888419 (Museum). Good luck with your search. Yours Marion Lynch Archives Assistant This was a response to an email I sent trying to find what Clan the Eagleton family was connected to. If anyone has any thoughts, please post or write me at <Neat-Gitt@worldnet.att.net> Bill & Anita Notify Administrator about this message?
