Royal Zebulon Bennett was at Appomattox. His encampment with the N.Y. 116 Regiment was immediately to the north of General U.S. Grant's encampment overlooking Appomattox. I was in Appomattox in August 2007 and the historian at the National Site pointed out the location of the NY 116. It was awesome to see the site and walk where my grandfather's grandfather had been during the American Civil War.
