To L. Parrish: What you are looking for is in the well-known book by Thomas Bellows Wyman, "Genealogies and Estates of Charlestown, in the Co. of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Mass., 1629-1818", printed 1879. There is a reprint, prob. by Genealogical Publ. Co. It is an alpha. listing of the old families and has sev. pages on the anc. and desc. of EDES, John; ship-carpenter; from Lawford co. Essex, where b. 31 March 1651,etc. Son of John, the s. of John who was 41 yrs. Rector of Lawford, prior to his death 12 April 1658 (monument-I've seen it). Rector J. has B.A. and M.A. from Camb. and was gt. gr.-son of Henry of Bocking, co. Essex, whose s. Henry adm. his estate July 3, 1574. There's much more. John marr. Mary Tufts; son John-2 marr. Grace Lawrence; their son Peter marr. 1. Esther Hall and had 7 ch.: Benj. was b. Oct. 14, 1732 and Thomas b. 26 Sep 1737. Benj. was printer, marr. Martha Starr; Thos. was leather-dresser, marr. Mary Wood. etc.
Wyman's asst., Henry H. Edes, took over and finished the project when W. died, but wouldn't allow his own name added to title page.
