Hi, and salutations to all Ethier This Sophie is my Waterloo, or if you prefer, my bricks wall ! She is my great grand mother, married to Louis Napoléon Vadeboncoeur (abt.1866) where ? U.S.A.,?, Montréal ? She is list in the Drouin dictionnary has the wife of Louis Napoléon Vadeboncoeur: no date, nothing. His family originate from St-Alexandre d'Iberville but I found no trace of her birth in that parrish. I conclude she was born somewhere in U.S.A.; Mass, Rhode Island, Michigan ? We have more than 100 post-cards written to Sophie. Some ar from Newton, Mass (Ed Lacroix) from Webster, Mass (G.Ethier, cousin), from Holyoke (Eva Ménard). Louis Napoléon Vadeboncoeur join the Union army during the Civil War. He was buggler. The couple lived in Chicago after the war but they lost everything in the big fire of 1871. Their first son was one year old and they then moved to Détroit where is born, july 07, 1872, my grandfather. They return to Montréal, about 1889/90. Sophie Ethier died in Montréal, May 25, 1920. As a Widow she travel a lot, Gaspé in summer, Florida in winter. We don't know the name of her parents, his birth date (abt.1844). I suspect that during the war she was living near the military base of the regiment of Louis Napoléon. What regiment in Mass. ?
