James A. (probably Anderson) Dysart was born in 1744, no doubt at Brook Hall, County Derry, Ireland. There are several versions of his coming to America in 1761, but Charles J. Griffith, who wrote "A Dysart Lineage - Seven Generations" believes James came with his father, Samuel. An uncle, another James Dysart, probably came about the same time.
Our James A. Dysart, after several years as a "long hunter" settled in Washington Co VA.
He married Agnes (Nancy) Beattie, daughter of John Beattie. He served as a Captain in the Revolutionary War, being wounded at King's Mountain, where three of Nancy's brothers also fought and one was killed.
Their children( probably all born at the two story log cabin, which was also named "Brook Hall", at Glade Springs, Washington Co. VA,)
were Eleanor, b 24 Sept 1776 m Wm. Carson; Samuel, b 1778, m Ann(a) Meek; John Beattie b 10 Nov 1780, m Jane Logan; Frances b 25 Feb 1785, m John W. Cowan; Johnston, b 22 Feb 1787, m Mary Ann (Polly)Cowan; Elizabeth b 11 Dec 1791, m Charles Campbell Carson.
