Private Henry Dysart, Company "D", 3rd Iowa Calvary fought in the Civil War during "The Campaign For Pea Ridge" close to the border of Missouri, in Arkansas. There was a horrible battle at Elkhorn Tavern at that place, which I visited last week on July 7th, 2004. A publication can be purchased in the Civil War Series from the National Park Civil War Series. In any case, from the words of Pvt. Henry Dysart~ "In every direction I could see my comrades falling. Horses frenzied and riderless ran to and fro. Men and horses ran in collision chrushing each other to the ground. The scebne baffles description." Dysart is not a direct line for me. One of my HOLMES ancestors, Sarah, married Dysart Woods, who was a descendent of the James Dysart who fought in the Revolutionary War. James died at the Battle of Cowan's Ford, Lincoln Co. NC 01-Feb-1781. This James married Margaret Young Stewart in1747. They were both born in Ireland. In any case, this is all the information I have on Pvt. Henry Dysart and am just sharing for anyone who might be interested in him Settled two miles northeast of town -Bentonville when it was still a part of Washington County. Dysart Woods was a former county judge, the third in the county. Happy Hunting Kathryn Mero HOLMES Lang Notify Administrator about this message?
