Zelma I. (Davis) Dykes, 87, of Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN,
passed away on Monday, April 12, 2010, at Wellmont Holston
Valley Medical Center after a short illness. She was born
on July 8, 1922.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
She loved spending time with her family and friends and
loved to go shopping and going out to eat in restaurants.
For several years she and her second husband, Paul, were
very active in area square dance groups. She was a member
of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kingsport.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph
Elmer Davis, and second husband, Maxwell Paul Dykes;
mother, Cynthia Hicks and her father, Earl McKenzie; one
sister, Lucille Lucas; one brother, W. D. Harkleroad;
three half-sisters; two half-brothers; and one grandson,
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and
Donna Davis of Kingsport, TN; daughter and son-in-law,
Sheila and Kenneth Kilbourne of Gray, TN; sister, Adra
(Raymond) Daugherty of Hollywood, FL; four grandsons,
Chris (Gwen) Davis of Kingsport, TN, Scott (Francis) Davis
of Las Vega, NV, Terry (Michelle) Bowen, II of Greenwood,
IN, and Bradley (Kellie) Bowen of Concord, NC; one grand-
daughter, Tracy (Chris) Victory of Murfreesboro, TN; three
step-granddaughters, Roni (Rick) Baker of Wake Forest, NC,
Terri (Tom) Roberts, and Cheryl (Randy Medley all of
Johnson City, TN; five great-grandchildren, Leslie (Lance)
Floyd, Trevor Davis, Sammee Davis, Taylor Victory, and
Rianon Victory; five step-great-grandchildren, Jimmy
Thacker, Paige Roberts, Jill Roberts, Hope Roberts, and
Peyton Medley; one great-great-granddaughter, Caroline
Victory; one great-great-grandson, Garrett Floyd, due to
arrive in August; three half-brothers, Albert McKinzie,
Paul McKenzie, and David McKenzie; four half-sisters, Rosa
Kuster, Vera Black, Nancy Pye, and Jean Amos; and several
nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to
Dr. Raval and all the nurses and staff in the ICU, and the
39 hall at Wilcox Hall, and to all of their family and

2010, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., in the J. Wayne Hamilton
Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.
