Effie Mae Watson Dykes, 88, TN, obituary; w/o Herk Dykes

Following a brief illness, Effie Mae Watson Dykes, 88,
went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2010, at Emeritus
at Kingsport Senior Care and Residential Living, which had
become her second home, Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN.

Mae was born on August 16, 1921, in the Milburnton
Community of Greene Co TN. She attended Chuckey High
School. Mae accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior
at the age of nineteen, and followed in Christian baptism.
Mae was a member of Pleasant View Church of Christ, and
later, a long-term member of Belvue Christian Church in
Kingsport. Mae was a homemaker and devoted wife, daughter,
sister, and mother who had many beloved friends and
neighbors in addition to her family.

Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Herk
Dykes; her father and mother, Walt and Fannie Watson; a
brother, Gurvis Watson; and sisters, Mayme Good, Vee Haren,
and Lee Cleek.

Surviving are her daughters, Brenda Wainner and husband
Tom, Vanessa McCarrell and husband Darris, and Jill Solomon
and husband Dale; son, H. Wade Dykes and wife Patricia;
grandchildren, Keely Solomon, Katie Solomon, Kelsey
Solomon, Erik Dykes, Travis Dykes, Amelia McCarrell, Lucas
McCarrell, Wendy Dunford, and Julie Simpson; great-grand-
children, Caleb Dunford and Skyler Dunford; sister-in-law,
Cuba Watson Carberry; and many special nieces and nephews
whom Mae loved dearly.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to
Wellmont Hospice Care, and in particular to Ashley Brown
and Becky Sutherland. The family would especially like to
thank all the caregivers at Emeritus Senior Care. Mae
loved them dearly. We would also like to express our
sincere gratitude to Dr. Richard Reed.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 27,
2010, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral
Home, Kingsport.

Services will follow at 2 p.m., with John Owston officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers
will be Jerry Lively, Erik Dykes, Travis Dykes, Darris
McCarrell, Lucas McCarrell, Dale Solomon, and Tom Wainner.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial
contributions may be sent to Belvue Christian Church, 2700
E. Center St., Kingsport, TN 37664
