James E. Dykes, Sr., 74, TN, obituary; s/o George and Pearl Dykes

James E. Dykes, Sr., 74, Jonesborough, Washington Co TN,
passed away February 18, 2010, at the Johnson City Medical
Center in Johnson City, TN.

James was a retired US Navy Veteran with 20 years of
service.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Dykes;
mother, Pearl Dykes; brother, Gene Dykes; sisters, Jessie
Alfred and Maggie Martin; and his beloved daughter, Phyllis
Dykes Gosnell.

Surviving siblings include brother, Don Dykes and wife
Helen, Mason, TN; sister, Nancy Derting and husband Bill,
Mt. Carmel, TN; a sister, Lois Shipman and husband
Richard, Graham, NC; surviving children, grandchildren,
and great-grandchildren include daughter, Teresa Anders
and husband Rodney, Elizabethton, TN, and their children,
Cody Anders, currently serving in Afghanistan, and Logan
Anders, and son, James Dykes, Jr., Knoxville, TN, and his
children, Jason Dykes, Joshua Dykes, and Bethany Dykes;
granddaughter, Twila Byrd and husband Michael, Johnson
City, TN, and their children, Shawn Byrd, Marcus Austin,
and Kobe Byrd; granddaughter, Brandi Austin, Johnson City,
TN, and her daughter, Mattie; and his very special former
spouse and mother of his children, Clara Dykes, Johnson
City, TN.

The Dykes family would like to thank his many special
friends in and around the Clarks Creek community and
Jonesborough.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.,
Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.

Military services will follow with honors provided by
Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post #3382.
