Yes, Amanda Burke did marry John Jackson Dyess in 1856. After she apparently died he married Amanda Martha Whitlow in 1858. He and the second Amanda moved to TX where she died in childbirth in 1873 in Lamar Co. He later moved to Bell Co. with his son where he died in 1903. He's buried in Holland Cemetery, listed as JJ Dyess. He was my gg grandfather. His son, John Bunyan, married Nancy Alva Moore and finally settled in Grand Saline, Van Zandt Co., TX where he was a circuit preacher. His daughters were left behind to be raised by another family. I have to assume he thought it would be too rough a trip for them. But that's only speculation. He never married again.

I would love to exchange information and pictures with any of the people in this thread who are connected to my family. I have been working on the Dyess clan for over 25 years and am still finding out new information.
