Hi, I'm looking for information on John Thomas Neese who married Martha A. Dyas/Dyus/Dyess (pick the spelling you want!) Martha might have first been a Keeley. I found the following on 1850 Mobile census visit 206 not far from where my Neese relataives were living in 1860: Peter Keely 50 Laborer SC Elizabeth 40 NC Lavinia? 16 MS? Mary 14 MS Martha 13 or 11? MS Nancy 10 MS Francis 8 MS Does anyone know anything about this family? I believe my relative was Martha A. Keeley b. 1837 who married John Thomas Neese. I found the following: Mobile County marriages: Book 19, page 555 John T. NEESE Sex: M Marriage(s): Spouse: Martha A. KEELEY Marriage: 29 Aug 1863 Mobile, Alabama John Thomas Neese was b. 1833 in Millsville, AL. He is buried in Wheelerville Cemetery but there's no record of her there. I don't know when she died. They were married and they had their first child, Julius M. Neese by 1866. She and John Thomas Neese lived outside Mobile their whole married life. She might have married a man named Dyus/Dyas/Dyess (maybe Ransom) first. I found this on the 1860 Mobile census in the same area as she and John Thomas Neese lived: Ransom S. Dyus 33 Laborer MS Martha A. Dyus 30 AL William T. Foster 3 AL Here's the Dyas connection: Family lore says her name was Dyas, but I can't find any marriage record for her under this name to John T. Neese. Perhaps she married Ransom Dyas first, then John T. Neese but used her maiden name on the marriage application. If you have information that a Martha Keeley married a Dyas, please contact me. Thanks so much for any help given. I have the line from her and much information to share if we connect. Kat Notify Administrator about this message?
