Rhonda,
This is my dad's cousin. He told me that Eli's mother was Nettie Mae Williams,(my dad's great aunt), & his father's name was George Dyess, ( " Little " George, as he was called ). I was told that Nettie Mae "went crazy" & was sent to Chattahoochie, Florida, to an asylum. Haven't been able to find out much about George Dyess. I do know that George W. Dyess, Sr. & Nettie Mae are buried at Sand Pond Cemetery, west of Dunnellon. The stones read : George W. Dyess, SR. born 1886 died 1950 husband of Nettie Mae, & : Nettie Mae Dyess born 1910 died 1978 wife of George W. SR.
Sand Pond is our family cemetery & there are a few Dyess & also Dias. I'm trying to figure out if these two are the same family ( as I've been told ) or different families. I was told there was a family feud & one side changed the spelling of the name but kept the pronunciation. Anyway, at the cemetery, there is also a G.W.Dias ( father ) & a Mrs. G.W. Dias ( mother ). Can't really read the dates, so I don't know if there is a connection to George W. Dyess, SR.
