Yes, our Dyess' did come from NC. The first known Dyess was in NC in 1730's. They then moved on to SC, and after that into Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana & finally into Texas. (not necessarily in that order) Dempsey was born in 1785 in Barnwell Co., SC. I do not recall the name Brightwell in amongst my Dyess', but that doesn't mean they weren't connected in some way.
