William DYER was probably from Somerset, England and migrated to Dubuque Co., IA ca. 1848. His brother, James II, had preceded him from England to Dubuque Co. They were sons of James and Hester DYER. William probably m. 3 times: 1] Louisa Woolley ca. 1849; 2] Ann Gadsden ca. 1850; and 3] Mary Richards at Dyersville, Dubuque Co., IA in September 1859. William and his third wife, Mary, migrated from Dubuque Co., IA to the vicinity of Corona, Riverside Co., CA ca. 1887.
