Margaret Dye McKinney Smallwood, widow of John Smallwood, died in 1896 and is buried in a cemetery in Oak Park, Cook Co., IL. She is buried next to her son Charles Smallwood and his wife Ida. A family member said that Charles became an executive with a Chicago paint / varnish company. He and Ida owned a summer home at Traverse City, MI. In the 1860 Taylor Co., VA/WV census, John Smallwood works on the railroad. Family lore is that he died after 1865 while working out of state. Margaret (Dye) Smallwood appears in the 1870 and 1880 Marietta Twp., Washington Co., OH census records. By 1880 she is listed as a widow.
