"... James Dye was born in 1720 in Staten Island, Richmond Co., NY. He moved with his parents from Staten Island, Richmond Co., NY to Middlesex Co., NJ in 1725. James married Sarah Leach/Lantz about 1741 in New Jersey and they had 10 children between 1744-1755. All of their children were born in Middlesex Co., NJ. James & his brother David served in the military in 1746 as a member of Capt. Richard Langdon's Co. of New York City in the expedition against Canada. On Dec. 14, 1752, James Dye was listed as a landholder (tax payer) for Amboy Twp, Middlesex Co., NJ. James & brother David were both members of Capt. Waters Co. in the Provincial Troops of Richmond Co., NY in 1760. James Dye died April 4, 1764 in Middlesex Co., NJ. Sarah died October 31, 1765, probably in Middlesex co., NJ. Their son John served with General George Washington as a part of the Pennsylvania Line, 11th Infantry. Their son Andrew married Sarah Minor/Miner, who was a first cousin of Martha Curtis Washington...."
