Looking for ANYTHING on SEA CAPTAIN WELLINGTON HOWES, OF PORTLAND, MAINE, WHO'S SHIP, THE "MATHEW VASSAR JR." WAS SHIPWRECKED IN CHESAPEAKE BAY, NOVEMBER 1897. SHIP WAS CARRYING LUMBER AT THE TIME. HE WAS MARRIED TO MY GRANDMOTHER, EMILY EDITH HOWES, WHO SAVED THOSE ABOARD BY HER HEROIC ACTIONS, AND THEN WROTE A PUBLISHED ARTICLE ABOUT THE SHIPWRECK. THEY HAD ONE SON, MY MOTHER'S HALF-BROTHER, CALIXTO GARCIA HOWES, (BUDDY) NAMED IN HONOR OF CALIXTON GARCIA, CUBAN LEADER, WHO FOUGHT BESIDE PRESIDENT TEDDY ROOSEVELT IN SPANISH AMERICAN WAR. CAPTAIN HOWES' FIRST WIFE DIED BEFORE HE MET MY GRANDMOTHER. AFTER CAPTAIN HOWES DIED, MY GRANDMOTHER MARRIED MY GRANDFATHER, A.R. HIATT, SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN, AND PHARMACIST, OF STOCKPORT, IOWA, WHERE SHE IS BURIED.

Would appreciate ANY information on Captain Howes, his ship, my grandmother who died before I was born, about the article she wrote, or the shipwreck.
