I have Dwyers in my ancestry from 1811, Co. Tipperary. My G-aunt 4 generations removed was named Margaret. She was born in 1834. Will try to give you some extra help.

I search the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800.

Note 1 - Without a KNOWN parish, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%.

Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.

Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).

If Margaret was born in England, a good place to start looking for her would be in the 1851 and earlier censuses. LOTS of Irish fled to England during the famine era (1845-1851). Apparently Margaret's family had come to England B4 the famine since she was born there. The censuses MAY give you the names and ages of her parents at the census date. You REALLY need these to continue your search.

Her 1837 B date infers her parents were married in 1832 +/- 4 yrs. Rcd keeping by 1832 was not great - by 1832 43% of the parishes were NOT keeping B rcds. Of those that were, some of the priests were derelict in their duty.

As to where to search in Ireland, there are 16,263 B Dwyer B rcds dating from 1740 and 6,608 M rcds dating from 1726. Of these, 7,061, or 43%, are in Co. Tipperary. For marriages there are 2,684, or 40%, in Tipperary. This county looks like a good place to focus your attention once you gets some names. When you get them, respond to my genforum msg and I will try to help.

Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
